North West Simon Community has issued an Urgent Appeal for donations to support its work with individuals and families this Christmas
39 Children and 101 Adults were provided with local authority-managed emergency accommodation between 24 and 30 October 2022. Last year, the Government’s Homeless Report recorded 15 Children and 77 Adults homeless in one week. Official homelessness remains at a level that is higher than ever previously recorded in the North West.
Alongside those approved for emergency accommodation, the “hidden homeless” are sleeping rough, living in cars and tents, sofa surfing, escaping domestic violence in refuges, or sharing with parents, family, and friends.
On January 1st 2022, North West Simon Community was providing active support to 91 households. By November 1st, 2022, a further 162 new households have sought our assistance to resolve housing-related problems. Very often these households are amongst the hidden homeless of the region, who with our assistance and support hope to avoid becoming officially homeless.
In all circumstances, ending homelessness is about providing secure and safe housing but it is also about helping individuals and families to cope with a housing crisis. Our staff quietly and discretely provide assistance to households in their own community. The assistance provided by North West Simon Community can be the difference between Christmas in Homelessness and Christmas in a Home.
North West Simon Community has always been heavily reliant on public donations, and this year we need your help more than ever before.
We are appealing to all those who can, to donate to North West Simon Community and enable us to continue our work with some of the most vulnerable in our community in 2023.
