Meet Simon North West Board Members

North West Simon Community was incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee in the summer of 2005. The company is managed by a Board of 8 non-executive directors drawn from across the region, who bring to board deliberations their experience and decision-making skills developed in a wide range of areas relevant to the management of North West Simon Community. Independent Financial Advise is provided to the Board by former Director Fiona Egan (Accountant).

Shay Henry

Chairperson

Shay who is a founding member of North West Simon Community, and our current Chairperson, has recently retired from his position as Human Resource Manager with LYIT. Shay currently serves as an Adjudicator with the Workplace Relations Commission.
He is an experienced Human Resources Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. Skilled in Coaching, Management, Performance Management, Leadership, and Employee Relations. Strong human resources professional graduated from University of Keele and National College of Ireland. Shay’s knowledge and experience along with his enthusiasm for the work of the organisation have been a key factor in the survival of North west Simon Community during the first 15 challenging years of its existence.

Aine Doherty

Board Member

Aine is an Assistant Lecturer in Marketing at the Institute of Technology, Sligo. She received her Masters by Research from Letterkenny Institute of Technology. Her primary research areas include Experiential Marketing and Mobile Marketing.  She is currently pursuing a PhD at NUIG under the supervision of Dr Ann Torres. With a professional background in Marketing and Sales, she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate Marketing, Sales and Events management courses. Aine is currently guiding the organisation in the development of a new marketing strategy, that will bring together our work in the areas of social policy, fundraising, and shop sales.

Emer O Shea

Board Member

Emer is Rights Commissioner with the Labour Relations Commission and is well placed to guide the Board on how to manage and promote the welfare of employees. Emer’s experience also helps to ensure that the principles of equality and fairness are always at the centre of how clients are treated by North West Simon Community.

Louise Daly

Board Member

Louise is a Person-Centred Planning Facilitator in Sligo Intellectual Disability Services at Health Service Executive. Louise’s education includes a Certificate in Business studies, B.A Geography and History and B.A Social Studies. She is continually educating herself and loves advocating for those that need a voice and receive great satisfaction from assisting clients achieve their goals. Louise is a former employee of North West Simon Community and this experience along with her current role brings to the Board a valuable blend of knowledge and experience in relation to client centred policy and service development.

Margaret Heffernan

Board Member

Margaret has been a member of the Board of North West Simon Community for over ten years and brings a wealth of experience of working in the civil service to the Board’s deliberation. A former Regional Manager of the Civil Registration Service in the North West of Ireland, with overall responsibility for the registration of life events e.g. Births, Deaths and Marriages. Margaret is a Civil Marriage Registrar for the North West region and has been involved in the up-grading of Civil Marriage ceremonies e.g. the ability to perform ceremonies in venues other than Civil Register offices. Margaret’s experience of navigating the complex bureaucracy of statutory agencies is of immense value and importance to the Board.

Simon Stephens

Board Member

Simon is a Senior Lecturer at the LYIT School of Business. His main teaching interests are in Applied Economics. His research explores issues and models in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development. Simon has worked on numerous funded research projects. He is an award winning researcher and author. In 2011 he was awarded an Emerald Literati award for excellence.  Simon is Chair of the Entrepreneurship and Small Business track for the Irish Academy of Management annual conference. Simon is a former Chairperson of North West Simon Community. He has recently led the development of our Strategic Plan and the Code of Governance Handbook designed to ensure compliance with Charity Regulator’s governance requirements without which we not be permitted to continue our work.

Thomas Pringle

Board Member

Thomas Pringle has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Donegal constituency since the 2011 general election. Thomas’s experience of advocating for social and political change brings skills to the Board that essential to all advocacy groups. North West Simon Community believe that the only way to effectively prevent and resolve homelessness is through structural change, and campaigning for these changes will always be a key part of the Board’s agenda.

Cathleen Dolan

Board Member

Cathleen a solicitor based in Donegal town was appointed as Company Secretary of North West Simon Community in November 2018. Her knowledge of the employment, contract, and company law provides invaluable insights to the Board on how it may proceed in the complex legal world in which all charities must now function.
