About North West Simon Community

“North West Simon Community” was established in 2005 by a group of Volunteers from Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo as a company limited by guarantee with a voluntary board of directors and charitable status.

The Vision of North West Simon Community is that Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo are places where all individuals and families have the appropriate support to access a home of their own and the supports necessary to sustain their home. Our Mission is to develop and facilitate services to respond to the individual needs of persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. To advocate, educate and campaign for each person’s right to an appropriate home of their own and the services necessary to support this.

We chose this approach because we believe that:

  1. A person who has a secure home will find it easier to address many of the other challenges they face in their lives.
  2. Rural homelessness can often be more effectively addressed by bringing the service to the person rather than forcing a person to leave their own area to get the support they need.

North West Simon Community is affiliated to the Simon Communities of Ireland, a network of independent Communities based in Cork, Dublin, Dundalk, North West, the Midlands, the Mid West, the North West and the South East, responding to local needs and supported by a National Office in the areas of policy, research, communications and best practice.
